Rotary Club of Richmond NSW

INFORMATION FOR NEW MEMBERS

"You will profit from Rotary in proportion to what you put into your efforts"
- Rotary founder Paul P. Harris

GENERAL

The Club holds it’s Meetings on Monday of each week at the Richmond Club, Richmond.

Meetings commence with Fellowship at 6.30pm and the formal meeting starts with Rotary Grace at 7:00 pm. Your attendance at the Club meetings each week is most desirable, as it enables you to quickly get to know your fellow Rotarians as well as participate to the full in Club projects and activities.

Should you be unable to attend for any reason, it is essential that you advise Ray White Real Estate 02 4587 6666 before 10.30am on the day of the meeting for catering purposes.

CLUB ADMINISTRATION

The administration of a Rotary Club is carried out by the Board of Directors. It is important that you get to know the Board, as well as the officers of the Club. The key personnel of the Club are listed on the inside of your weekly Bulletin cover.

Each member is allocated to a Committee in one of the spheres of Service and this list is also on the inside of your Bulletin cover.

The Board of the Club meets once a month, when it transacts all the business concerning running the Club, receiving a report from each Director on the avenue of service for which they are responsible. Other Board responsibilities include New Member proposals, Rotary International and District 9690 correspondence, Club Finance, Service Projects submitted, Club Assembly, Agendas etc.

ATTENDANCE

To acquaint you with your attendance obligations, we would refer you to the Article V111, Section V, of the Club Constitution, which states:-

The membership of any active, senior active or past service member except as provided in the Article, who is absent from four consecutive regular meetings of the Club shall automatically terminate unless such absence is made up as hereinafter provided, or he is excused by the Board. Any member absent from a regular meeting of this Club may make up such absence by attendance at a regular meeting of any other Rotary Club or a Provisional Rotary Club on any of the 14 days preceding the day of absence, on the day of absence itself, or on any of the six days immediately following the day of absence and be given full credit for attendance in the Club, provided that notice of such attendance is given to the Club by Secretary of the club visited, or the member may make his own report.

It is pointed out that regular attendance at your own Club will ensure your speedier assimilation into the fellowship of the Club, as well as enabling you to make more worthwhile contribution in the area of service allotted to you; nevertheless, visiting other Clubs whether or not for purpose of “make-up”, is a delightful as well as informative Rotary experience. You will make lots of new friends, and return to your Club with ideas that may make our meetings the richer.

For your assistance you will find listed on the cover of our weekly bulletin some of our neighbouring clubs, their meeting times and venues.

Of special interest to busy Rotarians who find evening make-ups difficult on other nights, a number of inner city area Clubs in District 9680 and 9670 hold mid-day meetings; these meetings usually last no longer than an hour, yet are lively and informative providing a stimulating lunch time break.

A District 9690 Directory is available from the Club Secretary, listing all Clubs, their meeting times etc. as well as the names of the Club president. Should you plan to visit in Districts 968 or 975, interstate, in the country, in fact any where in the world, similar information regarding Rotary Clubs is available from Club Secretary Debbie Cooper on request.

CLUB FINANCES

Rotarian Phil Tuckerman is Club Treasurer this year, and it is his task to administer the funds of the Club. These comprise two separate accounts; the one an administration fund and the Investment Account into which all monies raised from the Club or general public for Community or International Service Projects are deposited.

When new members are inducted into Rotary, they are to pay a $45 Joining Fee to cover costs for the provision of a Rotary pin and a dinner badge etc.

Your co-operation is sought in assisting the Treasurer by prompt payment of Club dues, and adherence to his requirements in respect of monies raised at functions. As a new Rotarian you are reminded that when visiting other Rotary Clubs you are a “paying guest”. It is the usual practice at Rotary Clubs to issue make-up cards as the payment is made.
